Berkeley has 12 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools.
Postsecondary institutions include two community colleges and the well-known University of California at Berkeley.
The two community colleges are Vista Community College that offers Associate Degrees in art and science, and the Graduate Theological Union that offers studies in Biblical Languages, Buddhist Studies, Jewish Studies, and Orthodox Christian Studies.
UC Berkeley is a four-year university known for its commitment to civil rights and liberties.
The overall population of Berekely has some post-secondary education with 24.4 percent of residents 25 and older having completed a Bachelor degree or other advanced college degree. Highschool graduates make up 80.4 percent of the population. Only 7.5 percent of the population age 25 or older has less than 9th grade.
